Helena's Holiday Special

At this spirited holiday time, I'd like to extend some Thanks Giving to all those who supported Helena and her brief but powerful bid for the HorrorFest crown.

Because of the love she has received, she has decided to take up permanent residence in the DC area, and she's making plans to release her own website soon, or so I hear through the grapevine.

www.HussyofHorror.com is her official website on which she has a placeholder for now where you can view her first two shorts and send her some love at Helena@HussyofHorror.com. More details and a fresh site will be released in 2009. Check back for updates!

So, thanks again to all for the enthusiastic response she encountered during her short HorrorFest run and thanks for the positive audience reaction to her Deadlands 2: Trapped introduction at both the Hagerstown, MD and Queens International Film Festival screenings.

She looks forward to jingling your bells soon...

Rock the Voting Bloc

DC X-Play Edition 7
Saturday November 1 at 8pm
Sunday November 2 at 3pm

This special X Play Edition will be held at Round House Theatre Silver Spring. A series of short political plays spotlight the prevailing issues and events of one of the most consequential presidential races in recent history. XX explores a wide range of perspectives – both of the candidates and their constituents – in this entertaining, thought provoking night of theatre. For ages 13 and up. Presented by Round House Theatre & eXtreme eXchange.

I'm working, once again, with the talented Anne McCaw and Jessi Burgess who drew "socially conservative liberals" for their theme. God and Country, our piece, centers on William Jennings Bryan. Come on out and Monkey Around with us this weekend!

Helena, Hussy of Horror

Fall's official now and what have I choosen to do with my time? I've entered a contest of course. My online entry just got posted today and I have until THIS FRIDAY OCTOBER 17TH at midnight to accumulate “viewings” and “ratings”.

What have I entered, you ask? Wait for it… The 2008 Miss Horrorfest Contest. That’s right, folks. Don’t miss this thrilling opportunity to see me in a corset performing what I hope are some funny bits. My character, Helena, Hussy of Horror, draws her inspiration from Elvira and gets her fashion sense from Betty Page. Suffice it to say, Helena gets political.

Please visit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qbP19Ja-QB8 and do three things for me: Thanks in advance for your support!

1) View my video, “Helena, Hussy of Horror”.
2) Rate the video for me. Hopefully, you get a kick out of it and feel inclined to give me high marks!
3) Forward the video on to all your friends and anyone who could use a smile.

Happy Halloween, Everyone!

Change is on the air!

It may be early, but the first signs of fall have started to show: that earthy, musty smell in the air and just the slightest of chill in the breeze on some days.

I love fall. It gives me a renewed sense of energy and purpose. With the first signs of Fall '08, I'm happy to reveal the new look of Cindy Marie Martin.com: my own bright and cheery, fun-loving, vintage-inspired, magazine. On the site, you'll find tid-bits on all my exploits: voice-over, acting, marketing, and the film company as well as blog entries on what's new! I'm introducing a quarterly newsletter as well. Make sure to sign up on the home page of the website!

And so, what is new?

* 2pm-4pm come see performances of twenty minute excerpts from up and coming playwrights

* 6pm-7:30pm the INKwell will hold one of their most interesting panel discussions to date. A few weeks ago, in the Washington Post, Nelson Presley wrote an article discussion the coddling of the American playwright these days INKwell has invited, and he accepted, Nelson Presley to discuss this topic with people the likes of Ari Roth and Callie Kimball.

* Finally from 8-10pm will be a full staged reading of a play called Time Upon by Greg BEUTHIN, directed by Jessi Burgess.

  • I recently completed another voice-over for Vangent, playing the sister of a man being diagnosed with bi-polar disorder.

  • The United States Postal Service training video I acted in recently, won a bronze Telly Award and a Communicator's Award.

  • For Fringe, I participated on the INKwell team in Extreme Exchange's Politically Fringe-alicious event, a series of short original plays created during the fringe (in one week) in response to their political survey results. There was a polar bear and Nuva-rings. It was spectacular! Anne McGraw wrote our play, Her Heart's Trail to Herland, and Jessi Burgess directed.

And, personally, I just celebrated my fifth wedding anniversary with my husband, Lonnie on August 8th. We traveled to Surrey, British Columbia back in July for a week and fell in love with the location, the people, and the weather. And got loads of beach time… It's been a good summer. Let the fall begin.

More to come. Flip through the site, take in a few "articles" and come back for the next issue!

Blessed Be,
Cindy
